La luz entre nosotros
La muestra / The exhibition
After the First World War, many artists rejected the chaos of the avant-garde and sought refuge in harmony. They tried to rebuild a shattered world through what Jean Cocteau called the “return to order.” It has been written of that moment that artists, disillusioned and resigned to a certain degree of cynicism amid catastrophe, began to reflect on truth and craftsmanship. This world bears some resemblance to that one. Part of it is at war, capitalism is operating at full force, and the rise of fascism and right-wing regimes is being reproduced. In Argentina, for different reasons, many people live with an oppressive, suffocating sense of unease. "La luz entre nosotros" (“The Light Between Us”) takes place within this context, but it is neither a response nor an attempt at a quick escape from the problem by retreating into suspicions about the spirit of the age. An artist does not know why they do what they do; they know only that they do it, and that is enough. Works of art happen. And they do not occur only in galleries or institutions—they take place in history.
